At the heart of Tidal Quest, there is a deep love for marine life and a mission to share the wonders of the underwater world with you. We believe that an extraordinary game is built on trust, honesty, and mutual respect. That is why we want to be completely open about how this project was brought to life.
While developing the game, our foremost priority was educational accuracy and visual fidelity—ensuring that every marine creature you discover in your hands looks, feels, and teaches fish identification as faithfully as possible. To achieve this, we utilized assistive generative AI to render the creature illustrations, guided by a few vital realities:
1) Uncompromising Visual Accuracy: The ocean is vast and mysterious. Many deep-sea and elusive marine species are extraordinarily difficult to document in clean, high-resolution clarity. Generative tools allowed us to curate precise, anatomically faithful representations so that your journey of marine identification remains uncompromised.
2) Respecting Wildlife Photography: We hold deep reverence for professional underwater photographers whose craft takes years of dedication and risk in fragile ecosystems. However, as an independent studio, acquiring worldwide commercial licenses for over 70 rare and specific pelagic species would have placed the project far beyond financial reach—delaying or preventing this educational journey from reaching your table. We refused to let production barriers hold back the joy of learning about our oceans.
3) Handcrafted Design & Human Soul: Aside from the base creature portraits, every element of this deck—the card architecture, typographic hierarchy, rules system, narrative lore, and packaging—was meticulously drafted, composed, and perfected by human hands using traditional graphic design craft.
